Dear valued client,

Thank you for continuing to be a valued client of GETUS - your decision to choose an independent Internet Service Provider in Canada today and in the future encourages and continues to foster choice and competition in the marketplace which ultimately brings further innovation and affordability of telecommunication products and services.

As you may or may not know, GETUS operates through acquiring wholesale access through TPIA (Third-Party-Internet-Access) tariff rates which are paid to the local cable or phone companies of where we operate. These companies are also known as the “last-mile vendor” and “large carriers’”. The wholesale access tariff rates are set by the Canadian Radio Telecommunication Commission also known as the “CRTC” with keeping three parties in mind - First being you, the consumer and subscriber of the service, Second being us, the Independent Internet Server Provider encouraging choice and fostering competition among the marketplace, and Third being the local cable or phone companies, also known as the “last-mile” or “large carriers” operating networks partially funded by taxpayers through government grants and directives responsible for connecting your home or business for Internet access.

On August 15th, 2019 The CRTC ordered the facilities-based carriers (also known as the “last-mile” or “large carriers”) to cut their wholesale capacity rates by up to 43 per cent and chop their access rates up to 77 per cent for TPIA (Third-Party-internet Access) (Source. https://www.canada.ca/en/radio-television-telecommunications/news/2019/08/crtc-promotes-competition-for-broadband-internet-services-by-setting-lower-wholesale-rates.html)

“As the demand for faster broadband speeds grows, we are putting measures in place to ensure Canada’s Internet market remains dynamic. The final rates we set today will foster increased choice at more affordable prices while encouraging a more robust and competitive marketplace across Canada.” Ian Scott, Chairperson and CEO of the CRTC

Weeks leading after the newly made decision by the CRTC - Bell, Rogers, Telus and Others submitted an appeal to overturn the newly made decision by the CRTC to the Federal Court of Appeals placing a “stay” on the CRTC’s decision made August 15th, 2019.

The Federal Court of Appeals (FCA) on September 10th, 2020 -  more than 1-year after the CRTC’s decision to lower rates noted the large carriers' arguments were of "dubious merit” and dismissed the case. This infuriated the Large Carriers’ which submitted an appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada which just recently - February 25th, 2021 dismissed the case yet again.

Today, March 26th, 2021 the CRTC has yet to force the hands of the larger carriers’ in their decision from August 15th, 2019 while the large carriers’ continue to gain time and money gaming the system while Independents such as GETUS and their Consumers continue to pay some of the highest prices in the world (Source) due do the lack there-of competition in the market due the costs associated to wholesale access tariffs independents like ourselves are forced to pay the larger carriers’.

Unfortunately, the lack thereof action to implement these new wholesale tariffs by the CRTC  - in addition to the continued demand and capacity needed while we continue to navigate COVID-19 we have made the difficult decision to implement a standardized $5 price increase (approx .16/cents on all our home and business Cable and DSL Internet plans - effective March 19, 2021 for new sign-ups and effective May 1, 2021 for existing clients.

Since our inception in late 2015 we have not lowered rates once - but twice. GETUS continues to pride ourselves in offering an unlimited, worry-free experience without throttle or data caps while continuing to pass on every potential saving with added value possible - starting from only $34/mo without contracts, or credit checks.

We need to and will continue to ensure the integrity of our service continues to operate to the standard our clients expect. That being said, we are committed to do the very same once the CRTC and regulatory bodies allow us to do that - yet again.
